A Night at the Opera

The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the 2012-2013 season is Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 8 PM, at the Garde Arts Center in New London.  Music Director, Toshiyuki Shimada, conducts a “Night at the Opera” with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony 80 voice chorus.  The  program includes Wagner’s Prelude and Liebstod from Tristan and Isolde; Strauss’ Four last Songs, some of the most familiar and lyrical operatic choruses such as Prelude Act III and Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin by Wagner, Sailors Chorus from The Flying Dutchman and the Pilgrim’s Chorus from Tannhauser.  Giuseppe Verdi is well represented with Intermezzo Act III from La Traviata, Gerusalem! from I Lombardi alla prima crociata, Va, pensiero from Nabucco and Gloria all’egitto from Aida.  The performance features guest soprano soloist, Jurate Svedaite.  Mark Singleton, Choral Director, will lead a pre-concert conversation at 7 pm.   The concert sponsor  is Olde Mistick Village and the soloist sponsor is CCR Wealth Management.  For tickets, call the ECSO office at 860-443-2876 or purchase them on line at: www.gardearts.org
