Courtney Love Visiting Lyman Allyn Art Museum As Part Of Friday Art Opening

Courtney Love will make her museum debut in New London on Friday, opening an exhibit with art mentor David LaChapelle.

"Mentoring Courtney Love: David LaChapelle and Courtney Love," will be on display at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum from Saturday through Aug. 10. An opening reception will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, free to museum members and $10 for non-members. Love and LaChapelle will attend the opening.

Love, singer and rhythm guitarist for the band Hole, was formerly married to Nirvana lead Kurt Cobain. She had her first visual arts exhibit last year with the exhibition And She's Not Even Pretty at Fred Torres Collaborations in Chelsea.

The exhibit will be a display of portraits and self-portraits by Love and LaChapelle. Love's art consists of pastel, watercolor, graphite, colored pencil, charcoal, acrylic, and marker on paper while LaChapelle's portraits are photographic.

"While LaChapelle's photographic portraits are slick and hyper-real, Love's portraits are sketch-like and spontaneous," the museum said in a statement. "Her images are raw and full of emotion, and they bear a resemblance to her music. There is a consistency in vision between her music and her visual artthat suggests an authenticity of expression."

LaChapelle is a photographer who formerly worked with Andy Warhol at Warhol's Interview magazine. His photographs of celebrities have been featured on the covers of numerous magazines, and he photographed Love in 2007 for his work "Pieta."

In addition to the museum display, a virtual version of the exhibit made available through Dot Dash 3 technology will be hosted on the Lyman Allyn website.

To reserve a spot at the opening, call the museum at 860-443-2545, ext. 129.
