Who will be the Spring Food Stroll mystery judge?

With nearly 50 downtown eateries and businesses, roller derby girls, a tiger mascot and a mystery celebrity guest judge, this New London Main Street Spring Food Stroll isn’t business as usual. The semi-annual foodie favorite is set for Wednesday, May 15, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in New London’s Historic Waterfront District and is sponsored by the Garde Arts Center; Fiddleheads Food Coop; Dime Bank; the City of New London; The Day; KOOL 101; Metrocast; Pfizer; and Ink Magazine. This year’s Spring Food Stroll entertainment goes high-action with the addition of the Shoreline Roller Derby girls at the New London Fire Department’s firehouse, Bank Street. The all-women's flat track roller derby league will strap on their skates, hike up their fishnets and show strollers their moves, a combination of athleticism and showmanship. Other entertainment scheduled for the evening include singer-songwriter Kate Perkins at Hygienic Art, a comedy act in front of the Crocker House and an appearance by C.T. the Tiger, the mascot for the Connecticut Tigers baseball team. In typical Food Stroll fashion chef instructors from Johnson & Wales University Jack Chiaro and Bill Idell will be on hand to judge the evening’s delectable bites, but this year they will have some company. New London Main Street will have a local celebrity guest judge join Chiaro and Idell on their food journey. The mystery judge will be announced the day of Food Stroll. The event will also feature two new businesses to The District, Open Door Café and The Steaming Kettle, both of which are opening on State Street. Spring Food Stroll buttons are $25 in advance, $30 day-of-stroll. A $5 discount is available to military and students with valid ID. Children ages 5 and under stroll free with paid adult. Group discounts are available for groups of 6 or more. Buttons are available at the New London Main Street Office, 147 State Street, Suite B, New London and the Garde Arts Center, 325 State Street, New London.
