After Wesleyan University announced in 1909 that it would no longer admit women to the school, towns across…More Connecticut began offering space for a new campus and a committee was formed to establish a new college. About a third of the population of New London and the surrounding towns contributed to the $100,000 needed to establish the school, exceeding that goal by $35,000, and Connecticut College was officially founded in 1911.</p> <p>Today, the school is a co-educational liberal arts institute overlooking Long Island Sound and bordered by a 750-acre arboretum. Its curriculum includes interdisciplinary studies, international programs, funded internships, student-faculty research and service learning.</p>
