Nathan Hale Schoolhouse 19 Atlantic St, New London, CT06320 Nathan Hale, Connecticut's State Hero, was born in Coventry and graduated from Yale and taught for a while…More in East Haddam, before deciding to leave that "wilderness" and come to New London. He taught at thie school house from 1774 to 1775, when he enlisted in the Continental Army to fight in the Revolution. Within a year he had been promoted to Captain and volunteered for the risky job of spying behind enemy lines on Long Island. This diminutive red Union School's current location makes it part of the larger public-space-slash-museum of New London history that is the newly renovated Parade. The building is maintained by the Sons of the American Revolution, who keep it open for visitors from May through October.
