New London Maritime Society - Custom House Maritime Museum
150 Bank St, New London, CT 06320
With customs agents still staffing an office here, the New London Maritime Society Custom House Maritime Museum is theMore oldest continuously operating customs house in the country. The building was designed in 1833 by Robert Mills, the architect of the Washington Monument, and was the first federal building to host deliberations over the fate of the rebelling slaves of the ship Amistad six years later. Members of the nonprofit members maintain a museum showcasing New London's maritime history and are also stewards of the New London Harbor Light.
