CT State Police To Enforce 'Click It Or Ticket'

From May 21 to June 3, police will be promoting seat belt safety

  Better buckle up--Connecticut State Police will be promoting seat belt safety next week, according to WTNH. The national "Click It or Ticket" campaign will be enforced beginning May 21 and running through Memorial Day weekend to June 3. According to HamletHub.com, car accidents cause one death every 14 minutes and an injury every 13 seconds in the U.S. HamletHub.com has put together a list of seat belt regulations to be aware of, including child car saftey rules, age requirements, fines and more. According to the article, Connecticut drivers wear seatbelts more frequently than the national average, so keep buckling up and stay safe!

New London Conducting Radio Needs Assessment

City Council appropriates funds for survey to determine cost of combining emergency communications with Waterford

A communications company will survey New London’s emergency radio systems as part of an analysis of the costs that would be involved in joining Waterford’s new emergency system. The City Council has approved $2,500 to be paid to Tactical Communications—a Guilford company specializing in radio systems for emergency services, municipalities, and businesses—from the Veolia Water private dedicated contribution fund. The money will be used to conduct a needs assessment on New London’s equipment. The city has approved a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Waterford. The memorandum is not an official agreement with Waterford, but says that Waterford will agree to include New London on its new $6.5 million emergency communications system …

New London Man Arrested In Theater Stabbing, Carjacking

Chantau Chau arrested in connection to September incident in Woburn, Massachusetts

A New London man was taken into custody Wednesday, arrested in connection with a stabbing and carjacking at the Showcase Cinemas in Woburn, Mass. in September. Chantau Chau, 20, was arrested in New London on charges of armed carjacking, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and motor vehicle larceny. According to Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone, Chau will be arraigned today on a fugitive from justice charge.  The stabbing occurred Sept. 6, the same day that Officer Robert DeNapoli was shot several times responding to an armed robbery at Four Corners. “I applaud the dedicated law enforcement officers who were committed to finding the assailant in this unprovoked, seriously violent attack that …

New London Receives $42,000 For Anti-Violence Efforts

City is one of 22 communities sharing $915,000 grant

New London will receive $42,000 in federal funds to go toward the development of an anti-violence collaborative, Gov. Dannel Malloy announced today. New London is one of 22 cities in Connecticut receiving part of a $915,000 grant from the Department of Justice's Local Pass Through Justice Assistance Formula Grants. Malloy said these communities will also receive direct grants ranging from $10,000 to $271,000 from the Justice Department later this year. “While crime is at record lows in our state, these grants will help us bolster local police department efforts to engage in a coordinated and collaborative response to criminal activity that frequently crosses city and town borders,” Malloy said.  “Funding will be used to help sustain law …
