My 15 year-old nephew video *taped* a school yard fight. That's it. He was not involved in theRead More fight. His parents made him do the right thing and turn in the video tape to police. For this he received 18 months house arrest and 1 year in adult prison. He was handed a harsher punishment than the kid who was charged with assaulting the other kid *involved* in the fight. Lastly, in the video tape you can see a crowd of teens gathered around *holding their cell phones up* so they can tape it and take their own pictures. Funny, not one of them was arrested or charged. Would you like to rethink your uninformed response at this time?

@LB...Your nephew must have done something really bad for SUSAN B HANDY to to give him anRead More appropriate sentence. Most of her rulings are as if she was scolding school kids. Your nephew was lucky to have Handy... she is a cake walk. My suggestion is to take a good look at your nephew and figure out why he got what he deserved... not to complain about the judge...He deserved what he got and more

Judge Handy? Are you nuts? I wish that....woman...would rot in hell. She sentenced my nephew...aRead More minor...to 1 year in ADULT prison for video taping a school yard fight. He wasn't involved in the fight and had nothing to do with it. He only taped it AND his parents handed over the tape to police the second they heard about it. Handy's a ____ who should retire of grounds on idiocy alone.

so, again, we 'the ever loyal taxpayers' are taken to the cleaners to cover the 'unforseen cost' ofRead More KNEE JERK legislation by incompetent legislators. had they used a graduated system, implimented across a time span, a quota system or even an immediate show up at the local police for a nice photo and fingerprint (stand in line and WAIT YOUR TURN before you even go to the gun shop) until they accept issue the permit, this could have been avoided. people ARE afraid, deeeply afraid of having their most basic rights REMOVED form them (all while handing out free drivers licenses to ILLEGALS!) something STINKS here and it isnt in my house.

Tell the story the way you want. The NLFF's are takers from the community not givers. This is NJRead More FF's all the way. Prove it to be different.

Had it not been for the New London Fire Fighters, this project would never have come to New London.Read More New London FireFighters are a huge part of this project, from fundraising to installation. NLFD, deserves a huge thank you!

Seems very odd. The local taxpayers are forced to fund lucrative new pensions for New London FireRead More Fighters and when it comes to giving back to the New London community it is done by New Jersey Fire Fighters. Thank you to the amazing and committed New Jersey Fire Fighters.

What a joke this council is. Sprecace has the right idea and is doing the right thing for the cityRead More and the fab four will not support it because he is a republican. Shameful is what this is.

@Dirk: In another articleRead More (http://newlondon.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/councilors-facing-difficult-decision-in-new-londons-2014-budget) you state the current mil rate is 26.2, but in this one you state it is 26.6 - which is it?

It does amaze me that Anthony Nolan voted for a budget put forward by Michael Passero that nearlyRead More fully restores money to the fire department but leaves the police department and the brothers and sisters in his own department at risk of severe layoffs. What the hell is he thinking? Nolan is clearly a puppet for the mayor.

Why did her original attorney dump her? No case I suspect and the reputation of that lawyer in theRead More community was more important than a BS case.
Kenneth R. Lewis April 30, 2013 at 08:49 am
Of course, she thinks she holds all the cards. This will all collapse around her and the mayor soonRead More enough.
William Desmond April 30, 2013 at 07:11 am
This police chief should get nothing and she should be held accountable for the increased crime inRead More New London. Fact is she is not getting the job done. The mayor as her boss has neither the desire nor the testicular fortitude to hold her accountable. Both the mayor and the police chief need to go.

Send this chief of police and the mayor packing. Neither has done anything of value for the peopleRead More of the Whaling City.

Greg, truth be told the budget position taken by the mayor is a brilliant political move in aRead More council election cycle. This student mayor has just put all the responsibility and blame on the city council. If the council changes the budget or moves so much as one dollar they will then get blamed by the different special interest groups for every other cut, lay off or reduction that they do not correct, the seniors, the library patrons, the police officers, the firefighters and every tax payer will blame the council members and then the mayor can get his people all voted in in November. The Mayor will publicly state that the council did not pass the budget he gave them. He will say it is the council member's fault that only some programs were restored or funded in their changes. The mayor will sit back and stir the pot from afar. The only choice for the council is to pass the budget that the mayor put forward and let the mayor answer for the problems. The council is not in the position to establish funding. The council is there as a check and balance to cut frivolous spending. Council members steer clear and let the mayor take the hit for his budget. Anything less dooms the council members involved.

I just heard that the Board of Education members have all been provided IPADS with tax payer money.Read More This is wrong no matter how they spin it. If they can afford IPADS for elected officials their budget is way too high.

What a joke!! Police officers make me sick. Sitting in a car for 3/4 of the day. Then spendingRead More all their 4 hours of "overtime" to sit around so they can beef up their pension and rob the City of New London when they retire at age 45......so unfair! We need politicians to stick up for us.

Sounds like there is going to be a all or nothing showdown!!! I have a suggestion---How about theRead More City sell tickets for the City Hall Rumble--this Monday Night, and maybe raise some money to go toward the budget battle???
