St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church

Serving families from Westerly, Rhode Island to Old Saybrook, Connecticut, the St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church got its start on Jefferson Street before moving to Hempstead Street. The church later built a community center and purchased a former Unitarian church. The sanctuary is distinguished by ornate icons and stained glass windows. Each year, a Greek food festival is held on-site, and the congregation also routinely holds a Vasilopita celebration of the new year and a blessing of the waters at Waterford Beach.
