The Pubic Library of New London originated with Henry P. Haven, a businessman with interests in shipping, whaling and sealing. The trustees of his estate established a fund to build the library in 1881 and construction began in 1889. The library opened to the public in 1891 and offers a range of books, music, movies and public programs.
