This 11-story Renaissance Revival building, which towers over its State Street neighbors, started out as a printing press, was built by publisher Frank Munsey in an attempt to avoid New York labor unions. In 1898 it became the Mohican Hotel, which was known for a time as one of the finest hotels in Connecticut. After a stint as a department store, then another as a hotel again, it was eventually converted into an apartment building.

Mohican Apartments rents 1- and 2-bedrooms and efficiencies to people over 62 or under 62 and disabled. The building has a laundry room, an exercise room and a community room for residents.

The company also manages the commercial spaces on the first floor of the building.
