Named for the family estate on which it was built, Mitchell College was established in 1938. The school caters to about 1,000 students and offers both baccalaureate and associate degrees in liberal arts and professional fields. The 68-acre campus includes waterfront residences and two private beaches, as well as the Mitchell Woods trails, which are open to the public. The college also offers the Thames Academy program, which features a year of college preparatory classes to high school graduates.
