Rubik's Cube Competition
Saturday, 9 a.m. - Clark Lane Middle School is holding a Rubik's Cube Competition from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

Paws to Celebrate

Saturday, 9 a.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - Animal Welfare League of New London County's Paws to Celebrate celebrates 50 years of assistance to companion animals. There will be pawsitively purrfect adoptables, holiday baked goods, and a silent auction. Try a Buy-a-Bone Chance on a basket of goodies, get a ‘fluffing’ by a talented crew that do hair braiding/nail art, and pick up some Christmas treasures on the resale tables. Meet Donna Velardi, an animal communicator, and find out about your pet's past, have your companion animal microchipped with a Home Again microchip for $20 (this includes the registration cost), and, please, bring donations for the pet food drive. There are many animal families in need in Southeastern Connecticut, so please help keep them together this holiday season. During Paws to Celebrate, you’ll meet AWL' s Ambass-A-Dogs Jasmine and Gracie. And, Compassion for Cats of N.L. County, Phoenix Rising Equine Rescue, and pound dogs will be there looking to go home for the holidays. For more information, call 860-445-0280.

illumina: Connecticut College Fall Choral Concert
Saturday, 4 p.m. - Join the Connecticut College Chamber Choir and Vocal Ensemble in exploring light and darkness through chant and the music of Mendelssohn, Elgar, Holst, Brahms, Lauridsen, Whitacre, and Gjeilo. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students/children, and free to Connecticut College faculty, staff, students and alumni. A reception will follow.

Author Event: Marian Lanouette
Saturday, 4 p.m. - Come out for an interview with Connecticut crime author Marian Lanouette as she presents her latest Jake Carrington mystery novel. The event is free. Synopsis: Are rules really meant to be broken? Jake Carrington finds out the hard way and the answer is no! Dating Chloe Wagner was a huge mistake, and Jake should have known better - he's investigating the murder of Chloe's sister. Now Chloe is the number one suspect in that murder. If she's convicted, Jake could lose not only his rank, but his job. If that's not bad enough, he's got a stalker on his hands, someone who's threatening his fledgling relationship with the lovely Mia. Things are getting just a little too a little too personal for comfort!

Nutcracker on Ice

Saturday and Sunday, 4 p.m. - Nutcracker on Ice is the classic story of The Nutcracker brought to life by talented skaters featuring members of the Norwich Figure Skating Club. The skaters come from many different towns throughout Eastern and Southeastern Connecticut including Norwich, Colchester, Lisbon, East Lyme, Old Saybrook, Stonington and Waterford. The music and skating talent is complimented with wonderful costumes and props. The audience will enjoy watching Clara experience her Christmas Eve party, receive her beloved Nutcracker, and visit the land of sweets with the Prince. This production has a modernized Act 2 where it will share in Clara's dream with edgier music, costumes, and scenery. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved. Tickets can be purchased online at http://norwichfsc.tix.com. Kabaret for Kids
Saturday, 5:30 p.m. - Waterford Country School, a nonprofit agency that works to help children, youth and families with special needs, is holding its 10th annual fundraising gala on Saturday. The event will be held at Mohegan Sun Casino in the Uncas Ballroom. Performances throughout the evening will include the Jackie McLean Youth Jazz Orchestra (previously performed for First Lady Michelle Obama) and Triple Threat Dance Company. The evening will end with dancing to Madison Red. The evening also includes a buffet and live and silent auctions. All are welcome to attend. Tickets are $65 per person. Invasive Species of Fishers Island Sound (The Colonists Brought Over What?!?) 
Sunday, 12:30 p.m. - Discuss the European Colonists and what organisms may have tagged along. In present day, a new invasive species arrives into our local marine environment every year. Confer the implications of these invasions and factors like ocean currents, human impacts, resource availability, predation, and climate changes that may be causing this chain of events. Look at specimens, as well as the docks, looking for invasive evidence using an underwater camera.
