Riverside Park, Hodges Square Workshops Continuing Next Week

New London Landmarks is continuing its public workshops seeking input on how to improve Riverside Park and Hodges Square, with the next ones taking place next week.

The next workshop on Riverside Park will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Winthrop School, while the next one on Hodges Square will run 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Polish American Veterans Club. The workshop series will continue until the presentation of a master plans on the topics on June 22.

The Education, Parks and Recreation Committee of the City Council has asked landscape architects working on the plans to make a recommendation regarding whether or not to transfer a playscape from Veterans Field to the park. The New Jersey State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association is also offering to establish a playground at the site as one of 26 to be set up to honor both communities affected by Hurricane Sandy and the victims of the December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Other scheduled events include:

  • Hodges Square workshop, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 8 at the Polish American Club
  • Riverside Park workshop, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 21 at the Winthrop School
  • Sustainable Connections Conference, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 31 at New London Harbour Towers
  • Riverside Park workshop, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11 at the Winthrop School
  • Presentation of master plans, 11 a.m. to noon on June 22 at the Winthrop School with an additional presentation from noon to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park
