OIC of New London County Honoring Community Champions This Month

OIC of New London County has named its four "community champions" to be honored at a reception this month.

The nonprofit job training school has selected Michael Buscetto III, a real estate developer and former city councilor; Steve Sigel, executive director of the Garde Arts Center; and Verna Swann, patient relations manager at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, as its honorees. It will also give posthumous recognition to Milton L. Cook.

Cook, an active community organizer who was director of the OIC culinary program, died on April 26, 2012. The OIC of New London County is establishing the Milton L. Cook Distinguished Citizen's Award and will award the first honor to Cook. His widow, Minerva Dudley-Cook, will accept the award.

The reception will take place at 6 p.m. on June 13 at the Groton Inn & Suites. Admission is $50.
