Ocean Beach Cleanup Taking Place Saturday

Volunteers gather for International Coastal Cleanup

Volunteers are needed for an annual cleanup effort at Ocean Beach Park, part of an international effort to spruce up coastlines.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, and will be moved to Sunday in the event of inclement weather. Volunteers will pick up trash and take data on the shoreline. Those who wish to participate should bring gloves and sturdy shoes, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

This marks the 26th year the event has taken place. It is run by the Ocean Conservancy, with the goal of cleaning up debris and identifying its source to work on solutions. Connecticut efforts are coordinated through Save the Sound, an effort within the Connecticut Fund for the Environment to protect Long Island Sound.
