Fort Trumbull Cleanup Effort Seeking Volunteers

Residents are invited to take part in a weekend effort to spruce up Fort Trumbull State Park before the site opens for the 2013 season.

The cleanup will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the second year the park has taken part in Civil War Park Day, an event sponsored by the Civil War Trust for maintenance at Civil War sites. Fort Trumbull was used for training and recruiting troops during the war and was also the headquarters of the 14th Infantry Regiment.

Projects will include raking, painting, trash removal, dusting and cleaning in the park's buildings, and caulking. Supplies will be provided by the Friends of Fort Trumbull, but participants should bring work gloves. All volunteers will receive a Civil War Trust T-shirt and patch.
