BDJMS Students Give Back to the Environment

In celebration of Earth Day 2012, BDJMS students participated in the "Save Ocean Beach" Clean-Up Day.

On Saturday May 5th, several   BDJMS students and staff participated in a clean-up of Ocean Beach Park in New London.  The students volunteered four hours of their weekend to celebrate Earth Day by giving back to their hometown.  The students also participated in a nature walk as they cleaned and explored the beach.  This community service experience gave the students a new appreciation and respect for the environment and the beauty of New London.  The quote, “Think Globally, Act Locally” was discussed back at school and students participated in both writing and discussion of the meaning and importance of the quote.

It should also be noted that the 8th grade West End Tiger team at BDJMS also “adopted” a cheetah through the World Wildlife Foundation in honor of Earth Day 2012.

The students participating in the project were: Jada Gatchek, Floribeth Figueroa, Devon Holmes, Jaishelyn Velez, Rosana Joseph, Dylan Talaba, Luis Baez, Natalie Mcgraw, Cassandra Bathelemy, Tarrana Cannon, Tondreanna Esquilin, Aneica Torres, Mikayla Richardson, Shebony Gaston, Amy Riddick, Ashley Riddick, and Hadiya Robinson.  The staff participating were Melita Ferraiolo, Kristen Iaccarino, and Dan Mulvey.
