VIDEO: Waterfront Scenes From OpSail 2012

From the massive Carter Hall to tiny kayaks, people get out onto the New London waterfront to have some fun

OpSail 2012 got off to a bit of a late start on Saturday, as the process of untangling an anchor chain and slack winds out of Niantic meant the Coast Guard barque Eagle and the Navy's USS Carter Hall started up the Thames River closer to noon than 10 a.m. The crowds at and bore the delay patiently, however, checking out the musical entertainment and other attractions available.

The festivals continue through today with ship tours, a 5k running race, amusement rides and games, and musical entertainment.

This video features scenes from Saturday's Parade of Sail, flyover by Coast Guard aircraft, and a performance of "Paddy Lie Back" by the Free Men of the Sea. Did you take any photos or videos of Saturday's festivities? Share them here!

Can't wait to read Barbara Neff and John Johnson make a ludicrous claim that 900,000 people attended OpSail. Try about 25,000 in downtown and maybe another 25,000 scattered around the shore front. Which is a fine turnout, but Neff always has to make claims that are simply ridiculous.

Michael - You must not have been here. I have no doubt there were hundreds of thousands over three days. It'll be interesting to see the final numbers, but this seemed to me to be double last year's sailfest. Barbara and John should be paraded through the city on our shoulders with confetti flying.

I don't know about any of you but I had a fantastic time. The parade of sails was too hot but that was the fault of Mother Nature. The fireworks were spectacular and we had a blast downtown Sunday. Barbara Neff deserves a big round of applause. I hope the Mayor does not steal her spot light.

Wow... I had less than a fantastic time Friday in Niantic and Saturday in NL and there were a bunch of tourists that were not too happy with their OpSail experience, they said it was a flop and a farse. It was disorganized in some areas and was misrepresented by the media. The fireworks display was good however. I did not bother to go on Sunday because I had enough sun and disappointment. I wish I had not wasted my time at Fort Trumbull on Sat trying to tour the ships as they closed them early. All in all it was a series of unfortunate events in my book. Glad some people managed to have a good time!

sue p , dont think the mayor needs to steal miss neffs spot light ,lets see what happens with dont miss the boat this sat and who is paying for the city sevices that will be used . the music down on the waterfront this year was the lowest point of the weekend ,not the performers themselfs but lack off them ,the fireworks had a few dead spots in the sky ,lastly the vendor count was low ,maybe neff was asking for to much $$ from them ....................sailfest 2013 ,one has to wonder

I think I had a good time because we had a bunch of kids with us. They enjoyed it a lot more then most adults.
