Clearer Skies In The Forecast For Sailfest Weekend

More rain and thunder is expected in the leadup to Sailfest weekend, but skies should be clearer for the festivities.

The scheduled time for the fireworks display, one of the largest on the East Coast, is 9 p.m. on Saturday. Barbara Neff, director of the Downtown New London Association, said the rain date for the fireworks is Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued the following forecast through the weekend:

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a 40 to 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. The temperature will reach a high of 78 degrees and drop to 69 degrees overnight.

Friday: Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms, with the chance of precipitation falling to 30 percent in the evening. The high temperature will reach 78 degrees, while the overnight low is about 67 degrees.

Saturday: Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers before noon and a high of 81 degrees. Partly cloudy conditions in the evening, with an overnight low around 66 degrees.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high temperature of about 84 degrees. Partly cloudy in the evening with a low temperature of about 70 degrees.
