New London High School's boys' basketball team faced one of its toughest fights tonight, surviving a double overtime to advance the the CIAC Class LL semifinals.
The number five ranked Whalers defeated number four ranked Windsor High School 79-73, according to the CIAC website. New London must now face St. Joseph, the top-ranked team in the division, in a game on Wednesday. The winner of that competition will compete for the state title at Mohegan Sun this weekend.
In other games tonight, Hillhouse defeated Manchester 61-52 while Fairfield Prep defeated New Britain 59-48. St. Joseph bested Ridgefield 56-37. Both Hillhouse and St. Joseph are undefeated this season, while Fairfield Prep and New London each have a record of 21-2. Windsor also closes its season at 21-2.
