New London 7th-8th grade girls' basketball travel team went to Baltic to play East Lyme over the weekend and came out with a 10 point victory against a strong team. Immediately following that game, and rather unexpectedly, the girls faced Ledyard. And they beat that team by double digits too.
"I told my girls at practice, we run for a reason," writes head coach Calvin Fort. "We went to the game only knowing that we were going to play one game. Come to find out, we had to play two games. After the first game, yes, I can see my girls were a little bit tired but I kept on saying, "Remember practice ... we run for a reason... we do pushups for a reason. We are New London. We don't get tired.'"
This team is proving to be tough to beat, no matter who they play. So far the girls are 8-0 in the power pac conference out of Mashantucket and 9-0 overall.
"I love the way this team has chemistry," writes Fort. "They work great together."
The next game is January 18.
