Department of Energy and Environmental Protection hosts Fifth Annual Trophy Fish Award Ceremony at the Northeast Fishing and Hunting Show

Two New London anglers will be among 75 from across the state who will be honored by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this weekend.

DEEP hosts its fifth annual Trophy Fish Award Ceremony at the Northeast Fishing and Hunting Show on Saturday. This will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford and will present certificates to residents who caught or landed the largest fish in several species categories during 2012.

The recipients include Jeff Johnson and Karen Westerberg of New London.

Anglers submit affidavits with an attached photo of their catch to be considered for the program. Several new records were set this year including for two inland and five marine fish species and blue crab.

“These many awards demonstrate the excellent fishing opportunities that we have right here in Connecticut,” said Bill Hyatt, chief of DEEP’s Bureau of Natural Resources. “Fishing is a great outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by the entire family and it can be done close to home.”
