New London Sports Roundup: Whalers Have Four Game Winning Streak

Boys' basketball team defeats Hyde Leadership and LaSalle; Connecticut College men's basketball team travels to Florida

The winning streak for the New London High School boys' basketball team (4-1) has increased to four following two wins in the past week. The Whalers defeated Hyde Leadership 72-52 on Thursday and LaSalle Academy 71-65 on Friday. The team has 7 p.m. home games against Wilbur Cross on Wednesday and East Lyme on Friday with a 7 p.m. away game against St. Raphael Academy on Saturday. The girls' team (3-3) lost to Montville in a 53-34 result on Dec. 26 but came back to win against Wheeler 47-26. They next face Wheeler and East Lyme in 7 p.m. away games on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

Swimming competitions resume with a meet against Windham, RHAM, and Coventry at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Windham pool. The wrestling team has a home match against Windham at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Athletics at the Williams School start up again this week, with the boys' basketball game facing St. Andrews School on Friday, the girls' basketball team taking on Watkinson School on Saturday, and a squash match against Choate Rosemary Hall on the same day.

Traveling to Florida for the Tampa Bay Shootout last week, the Connecticut College men's basketball team (5-6) returns with a win and a loss. DePauw bested the Camels 79-45 on Friday, then defeated Westminster 79-69 the next day.

The Coast Guard Academy and Mitchell College had no competitions in the past week, but teams return to competition this week.
