Coast Guard men's soccer remains undefeated; New London football team defeats Waterford

The New London High School football team rebounded from its first loss of the season to deal Waterford a defeat on Friday. The Whalers won the away game 38-14, putting their record for the season at 4-1. New London is one of five Class M teams with this record, while six schools are undefeated so far. The team next takes on Plainfield in an away game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
The New London girls' soccer team (2-8) posted its second win of the season, defeating Derby 3-1 on Oct. 8. Fitch blanked the Whalers in a 6-0 game on Oct. 9; New London next plays Lyman Memorial in a 3:45 p.m. home game on Tuesday. The boys' team continues to struggle, logging a 5-2 loss to Killingly on Oct. 9 and a 2-0 loss to Fitch on Wednesday to stretch a winless season to 10 games. They also play Lyman Memorial next, in a 6:30 p.m. away game tonight.

The volleyball team won a 3-0 game against Putnam on Oct. 8. Their record stands at 2-6, and they play Killingly in a home game this evening at 5:30 p.m.
At the Williams School, the girls' soccer team is at 4-1-4 after a 2-2 tie against Wheeler School on Wednesday; the boys' soccer team (2-8) lost a 6-3 game to the Christian Heritage School on the same day. The field hockey team (2-4) lost to the Bancroft School 4-1 on Wednesday.

The Connecticut College volleyball team (16-2) improved a winning streak to six games with 3-0 wins against Bates on Friday and Colby on Saturday. The women's soccer team tied Mount Holyoke 2-2 on Wednesday and defeated Bates 2-1 in overtime on Saturday to improve to 4-6-2. On the same day, the men's team (3-2-6) racked up another tie with a scoreless draw against Bates on the same day, while the field hockey team (6-5) defeated Bates 4-1.
A successful pass in the last minutes of a football game drove the Coast Guard Academy to a 31-27 victory over Westfield State on Saturday, balancing their record at 3-3. The men's soccer team had two 3-1 wins, over Albertus Magnus on Oct. 10 and Mitchell College on Saturday, to improve an undefeated season to 6-0-1. The volleyball team suffered a series of losses, dropping a 3-1 result to Bowdoin on Friday before Wellesley and Bates defeated them 3-0 and 3-2, respectively, on Saturday; the team's record falls to 14-11. The Wheaton (Mass.) women's soccer team blanked the Bears 4-0 on Saturday, dropping to 2-10 in the season.
The Mitchell College volleyball team defeated Elms 3-1 on Wednesday but lost to Southern Vermont College 3-0 on Saturday, ending the week with a 6-9 season record. SVC's women's soccer team also bested the Mariners 2-0 on Wednesday, but the team came back for a 7-0 win over Wheelock on Saturday to put their record at 3-6. The loss to the Coast Guard puts the men's soccer record at 4-6. The women's tennis team (3-7) lost to Newbury College 7-2 on Thursday.
