New London Sports Roundup: Whaler Boys Improve Basketball Record

Two wins for New London High School; college sports resume this week

After dropping its opening game, the New London High School boys' basketball team rebounded in the past week to improve its early season record to 2-1. The Whalers defeated Bacon Academy 75-64 on Dec. 18, then bested Montville 87-65 on Friday. The team takes on Hyde Leadership in a 3 p.m. away game on Thursday and LaSalle Academy in a 7 p.m. home game on Friday. The girls' team, also at 2-1, lost its first game of the season on Dec. 18 when Bacon Academy triumphed 70-44. A game against Montville scheduled for last Friday has been moved to this Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. home game, followed by 7 p.m. home games against Wheeler and Griswold on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

The wrestling team's next match will be an away one at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Killingly. The swim team's next meet will not take place until January.

All New London colleges are currently on break and no athletic competitions occurred in the past week. However, Connecticut College will resume its sports program this week when the men's basketball team travels to Florida to take on Depauw on Saturday. The Coast Guard Academy and Mitchell College will resume competitions in January.
