New London Girls Basketball Still Unbeaten

The city's 7th and 8th grade travel team is ahead 9-0 so far.

New London's 7th and 8th grade basketball team is proving to be tough to beat this season. The defending conference champions played Stonington on Sunday and, although Stonington played well, the team proved no match for New London.

"Coming into the season this year, I knew we were going to have great shooting and a strong team," writes Head Coach Calvin Fort. "I tell all my 3 point shooters don't be scared to shoot a 3pt shot. The team feels comfortable when you have a 5 '11 Center in and 5'10 forward grabbing the rebounds for you, but I told my girls from the beginning we have to work hard in practice and execute everything in the games."

So far, all that practicing is paying off in a big way. The team is still undefeated and now stands 6-0 in the Mashantucket powerpac conference and 9-0 overall. Out of nine games, the team has scored a total of 402 points to their opponents' 216 points. The next game will be against East Lyme on Saturday.
