Roger Williams Beats CGA in Non-Conference Game

Rogert Williams University defeated the Coast Guard Academy at a non-conference men's basketball game on Thursday. The following information was released from the Coast Guard Academy:

Roger Williams shot 58.8 percent from 3-point range making 10 of 17 attempts and beat Coast Guard 66-61 in a non-conference game.

The Hawks, who improved to 6-2, made just two of 22 from 3-point range in a loss on Tuesday, but hit seven of 12 in the first half and three of five from 3-point range in the second half.

Senior Cory Fava and junior Pat Flanagan were each 3 for 4 from 3-point range as each finished with a team-high 11 points. Fava also finished with a team-high seven rebounds and four assists.

Coast Guard led 20-9 in the opening ten minutes and the Bears led 32-24 with 4:16 left in the opening half before sophomore Matt Grossbard knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers and Roger Williams scored ten of the final 12 points of the half for a 36-34 lead.

Roger Williams shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the opening half (14-27) while the Bears were 14 of 28 in the opening stanza.

The Hawks took the lead for good on bucket by senior Travis O'Dell with 8:11 left 54-53, which began a 9-0 run as Roger Williams took a 61-53 lead with 5:04 remaining in the game.

Roger Williams led 64-41 when Fava made a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to ice the game.

Senior Jevon James led Coast Guard with 16 points, while sophomore Greg Marshall and senior Adam Radtke each added 13 points in the loss. Sophomore Jimmy Knudsen had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Bears, who drop to 5-4 at the semester break.

The Hawks shot 49 percent from the field (24-49) while the Bears were 26 of 59 (44.1 percent), but made just two of ten from 3-point range.

Roger Williams held a 33-28 edge in rebounds.
