Groton's Matt Harvey Makes The Cover Of Sports Illustrated

By Ellyn Santiago

As was reported by CBS New York today, Matt Harvey is so “phenomenal,” he made it to the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Harvey, the standout starter for the University of North Carolina and before that, Fitch High School (where he was coached by his dad, Edward), is featured with the headline “The Dark Knight of Gotham,” wrapped across the cover. Harvey, the 24-year-old 6’4” pitcher, made his first Major League start for the New York Mets last summer. The 2007 Fitch grad -- who was born in New London and played Little League in Mystic -- was drafted seventh overall in the 2010 MLB Amateur draft.

The sub-headline on the Harvey cover story written by Sports Illustrated writer Tom Verducci reads: “In an era dominated by the power pitcher, the Mets’ Matt Harvey has the ferocity of stuff and will to rise above them all.”
