A former member of the baseball team has signed a contract with a professional league, according to the college's athletic department.
Anthony Santiago, whose hometown is Newark, N.J., will sign a contract with the Bristol White Sox of Bristol, Va., a team in the Appalachian League. The team's season starts today and runs for 68 games.
Santiago played with the Mariners in 2011 during his freshman year. The Mitchell College baseball team won the NECC title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time. Santiago started 35 games as catcher and had a .400 batting average with 24 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
Santiago is the second member of the 2011 team to play with a professional team. Drew Rossi played with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League last summer.
