Florida Sweep For Conn College Swimmers

Camels earn decisive victories in annual meet against Grinnell College

The Connecticut College men's and women's swimming and diving teams won a pair of decisive victories against Grinnell College in the schools' annual meet in Naples, Fla. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The Camel women, ranked #21 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) National Poll, earned a 160-45 victory. In the men's action, the 25th ranked Camel men posted a 113-92 triumph against the Pioneers.

Julia Pielock (Deerfield, Mass.), Esther Mehesz (Wethersfield, Conn.) paved the way to the victory for the women.

Pielock posted victories in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle with winning times of 24.91 and 55.66 seconds. Mehesz triumphed in both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle with respective times of 2:03.26 and 5:18.54.

In the mile, Nicole Sears (Bronxville, N.Y.) triumphed in 18:26.84. Rachel Bohn (Trumbull, Conn.) won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:16.44. Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.) posted a winning time of 1:01.83 in the 100 yard fly.

Junior Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.) won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:04.04 while classmate Katie Karlson (Wayland, Mass.) triumphed with a time of 1:08.26 in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Camel women notched a pair of victories in the relay events. In the 200 yard medley relay, Rachel Bohn, Katie Karlson, Julia Pielock and Erika Fernandes triumphed in 1:53.26. Fernandes, Jessica Schanzer, Abbey Ridge (Yarmouth, Maine) and Mackenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) teamed up for a victory in 1:43.81.

In the men's action, junior Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) and sophomore Sam Gill (Springfield, Ill.) were multiple event winners.

Walsh posted victories in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle with respective times of 49.17 seconds and 1:48.41. Gill posted winning times of 22.17 and 52.12 seconds in the 50 yard free and 100 yard butterfly.

In the mile, Max Fabian (Keene, N.H.) triumphed in 16:39.33. Sean Paquette (Middletown, R.I.) posted a winning time of 54.92 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke.

In the 200 yard medley relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Tim Walsh, Cameron Johnson (Westford, Mass.), Sean Paquette and Sam Gill teamed up for a victory with a time of 1:38.99 for the Camels.
