Currach racing in Ireland was originated by fishermen who would race each other back to shore after collecting their catch. This type of boat racing crossed the Atlantic and
took up root in North America.
The New London Currach Rowers continue the tradition this Saturday, August 11, 2012 beginning at 12:00 pm, racing from the Custom House Pier on the Thames River.
Come & support Connecticut’s only currach rowing club as they compete against teams from the North American Currach Association.
