Connecticut College Sweeps Swimming Dual Meet

Camels win competition at Trinity College

Connecticut College kept up a strong swimming and diving season on Monday, with the men's and women's teams sweeping a dual meet against Trinity College. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The 21st ranked Camel women secured a 193-100 victory against the Bantams, while the 25th ranked men triumphed in a 181-98 decision.

Junior Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.) and sophomore Ellie Huelbig (Rutherford, N.J.) were both multiple event winners for the Camel women.

Cameron Johnson (Westford, Mass.) triumphed in the 100 yard breaststroke for the men.

Schanzer was victorious in both the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke, posting respective times 56.04 seconds and 1:04.04. Huelbig won the 200 yard fly and the 200 yard backstroke with times of 2:13.79 and 2:19.05.

Nicole Sears (Bronxville, N.Y.) posted a winning time of 18:25.49 in the mile. Katie Karlson (Wayland, Mass.) triumphed in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.51. In the 50 yard freestyle, Julia Pielock (Deerfield, Mass.) secured a victory in 24.71 seconds.

Esther Mehesz (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the 200 yard breast in 2:30.24. In the 500 yard free, Carrie Wesnousky (Davis, Calif.) posted a victory in 5:29.74. Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.) posted a winning time of 1:01.15 in the 100 yard fly.

In the 200 yard individual medley, Rachel Bohn (Trumbull, Conn.) secured another Camel victory in 2:16.09.

The Camel women added a pair of wins in the relay events. In the 200 yard medley relay, Rachel Bohn, Katie Karlson, Erika Fernandes and Julia Pielock teamed up for a victory in 1:53.46. Fernandes, Pielock, Mackenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) and Schanzer posted a winning time of 1:41.72 in the 200 yard free relay.

In the men's action, Max Fabian (Keene, N.H.) continued his dominance in the mile, posting a winning time of 16:29.62. Senior Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) posted a winning time of 52.07 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke. In the 100 yard breast, Cameron Johnson prevailed in a time of 1:03.09.

Joe Gibson (Northwood, N.H.) won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:02.25. Patrick McGinnis (Middletown, R.I.) won the 50 yard free in 23.16 seconds. In the 200 yard back, Sean Paquette (Middletown, R.I.) posted a winning time of 2:01.26.

Kirk Czelewicz (Lowell, Mass.) posted a winning time of 2:16.43 in the 200 yard breaststroke. In the 500 yard free, Bohdan Martin (West Hartford, Conn.) triumphed with a time of 4:50.36.

Sam Gill (Springfield, Ill.) added another Camel victory in the 100 yard fly with a time of 51.52 seconds.

The Camel men swept the two relay events. In the 200 yard medley relay, the Camel foursome comprised of Tim Walsh, Cameron Johnson, Brian Gilman (Newport, R.I.) and Sam Gill posted a winning time of 1:37.32.

Walsh, Patrick McGinnis, Joseph Colasurdo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) and Matt Newton (Sudbury, Mass.) logged a winning time of 1:31.04 in the 200 yard free relay.

Both teams will return to action this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet at Wesleyan University in Middletown.
