Wesleyan Wins Twice Over Conn College

Wesleyan defeats Camels in soccer, field hockey

Wesleyan University took home two wins to add to their roster Wednesday after a visit to Connecticut College. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

 

Women's Soccer: Wesleyan 2, Conn College 1

Laura Kurash (Voorhees, N.J.) scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Wesleyan University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Connecticut College Thursday.

The Cardinals extend their winning streak to five and improve to 8-4 with a 4-4 record in the NESCAC. The Camels fall to 4-8 with a 1-7 mark in the conference.

Connecticut College senior Brigi Palatino (Ludlow, Mass.) accounted for the Camel offense. Ali McKeigue (Arlington, Mass.) assisted on the marker.

Rookie net-minder Jessica Tolman (Brookline, Mass.) stopped four shots for the visitors. Natalie Signor (Glastonbury, Conn.) made six saves for the Camels.

Kurash buried a penalty kick in the 87th minute of action that snapped a 1-1 tie. In the 78th minute of action, Kurash scored the equalizer off a corner kick from Kerry Doyle (North Haven, Conn.). She leads the Cardinals with 13 goals scored this season.

The Camels vaulted out to a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute of action. Palatino rifled home a 20 yard blast.

Connecticut College out-shot the Cardinals 15-to-10 and held a 6-to-4 edge in corner kicks.

Wesleyan will visit Amherst College Saturday for a noon-time meeting in Western Mass. The Camels will visit Amherst College Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. NESCAC tilt.

 

Field Hockey: Wesleyan 4, Conn College 0

Taryn Murray (Hudson, Ohio) scored a pair of second half goals to lead the Wesleyan University field hockey team to a 4-0 victory at Connecticut College Thursday.

Senior Liz Chabot (Rye, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and an assist as the Cardinals extended their winning streak to five games.

Junior net-minder Tori Redding (Branford, Conn.) finished with six stops en route to her sixth shutout of the season for the visitors. Becca Napolitano (Hamden, Conn.) made nine saves in the setback for the Camels.

Wesleyan held a 3-to-1 shot advantage in the opening half. But with 8:40 remaining, the Camels nearly got on the board when Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) fired a shot from the left side of thee circle but Redding was able to make a kick save to preserve the scoreless tie.

The Cardinals finally broke through 3:33 into the second stanza for the goal that proved to be the difference maker. Murray converted a penalty corner with assists coming from Chabot and Morgan McCauley (Rye, N.Y.).

Later on with 20:32 remaining, Chabot added an insurance marker with a nifty one-on-one move.

The visitors continued to pull away to take the 4-0 victory.

The Cardinals will visit Amherst College Saturday for a noon-time NESCAC match up in Western Mass. Connecticut College will close out the regular season Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. game at Amherst College.
