The Mules closed out their season with a record of 11-13 (2-7 NESCAC). The Camels (12-12, 3-6) draw the #7 seed in the 2011 NESCAC Championship Tournament and will visit second seeded Middlebury College next Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. quarterfinal.

Christian Van Loenen (Falmouth, Maine) and Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored 12 points each to lead the visitors in the victory. Mike Russell (Wellesley, Mass.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Connecticut College freshman Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) poured in 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the hosts. Junior Brian Mahoney (Quincy, Mass.) tallied 13 points and five rebounds for the Camels.

Mason Lopez (Edgewater, N.J.) reached double figures with 10 points and six boards in 27 minutes of action.

Connecticut College head men's basketball coach Tom Satran was frustrated with Saturday's result but is excited to have his improving Camels back in the post-season for the third time in the past four years.

"Obviously we are disappointed in today's outcome," Satran said. "We shot the ball poorly but a lot of that had to do with Colby's defense. A big part of the loss is my fault. I needed to help our guys find some easier shots and didn't get it done."

John Bullitt (Brookline, Mass.) put the Camels on top 36-35 with 8:02 remaining in the second half when he put back an offensive board with a hoop and some harm.

But Colby scored the next six points to take a 41-36 lead they would not relinquish. The Camels kept it close the rest of the way and trimmed the deficit to 49-48 when Lopez buried a triple with 2:43 left on the clock.

However, the visitors responded with a Van Loenen three-ball on the ensuing possession to take a 52-48 lead and were able to hold on for the 59-53 win.

After starting the season at 1-4, the improved Camels have put together an 11-8 record of the past three months of the season.

Women's Basketball: Colby 67, Conn College 36

The Colby College women's basketball team earned a 67-36 victory against Connecticut College in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Mules improve to 20-4 with a 7-2 record in the NESCAC. The Camels close out their season at 9-15 with a 1-8 mark in league play.

Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) poured in a game-high 17 points and was 6-for-9 from the field and 4-for-4 at the foul line to lead the visitors.

Connecticut College junior Kim Horne (Newport, N.H.) netted 11 points to go with six rebounds and three assists for the hosts. Caitlin Cimino (Falmouth, Maine) added six points and eight boards.

Connecticut College Head Coach Brian Wilson and the entire team honored senior Tori Verrengia (Plymouth, Mass.) in a pre-game ceremony.

Verrengia scored all nine of her points from beyond the arc and pulled down four rebounds for the Camels.

Women's Ice Hockey: Conn College 4, Hamilton 1

Amy Leichliter stopped 26 of the 27 shots she faced to lead Connecticut College to a 4-1 win against Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's ice hockey game at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Feb. 12.

Connecticut College (11-9-2 overall, 7-6-1 NESCAC) swept the weekend series from the Continentals. The Camels edged Hamilton 4-3 at Sage Rink on Friday night. Connecticut College is in fifth place in the conference standings with two games left.

The Continentals (10-12-0, 5-9) are in sixth place in the standings with two games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the 2011 NESCAC championship.

Four players scored goals for the Camels. Courtney Dumont was credited with two assists and leads the team with 26 points.

Stephanie Miguel scored her eighth goal and notched her 17th point in 14 games for Hamilton. Becca Hazlett made 28 saves as her record in goal dropped to 6-12.

Connecticut College grabbed a 1-0 lead at 3:46 of the first period. Leah Kallen scored her first collegiate goal during a scramble in front of the goal. Kallen somehow swept the puck past Hazlett and a couple players that had fallen in front of the crease.

Miguel tied the score at 7:15 of the first. She picked up the puck after a turnover at the Hamilton blue line and skated in on a breakaway. Her wrist shot from the slot beat Leichliter high on the glove side.

Caroline Corbett put the Camels in the lead for good on her sixth goal with 4:32 left in the first. After Connecticut College blocked a shot, Corbett took the loose puck from the Camels' blue line and carried it into the Continentals' zone. Her slap shot from the top of the left circle eluded Hazlett.

The second period was quiet until Ariel DiPasquale tallied her fifth goal with 2:39 remaining. Dumont faked a shot on a 2-on-1 break and passed to DiPasquale, who rifled a one-timer from near the bottom of the right circle for a 3-1 lead.

Kourtney Martin provided the final margin with her fourth goal during a 4-on-4 situation with 4:00 left in the third period. Martin scored from the right circle on a backhand shot that slid along the ice and under Hazlett.

Connecticut College held a 32-27 shot advantage. Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play. Hamilton still enjoys a 16-6-3 advantage in the all-time series.

The Continentals host Trinity College for another NESCAC game on Friday, Feb. 18. The Camels return home to face Wesleyan University in conference action on Friday as well.

Men's Ice Hockey: UNE 6, Conn College 3

The University of New England struck for a pair of goals scored 1:59 apart in the early stages of the second period to take control in a 6-3 victory at Connecticut College Saturday.

The Nor'Easters improve to 5-17 with a 2-15 record in the ECAC East, while the Camels fall to 7-12-3 with a 6-10-1 record in the NESCAC.

Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) tallied two scores to lead the visitors. Sophomore Adam Laite (Sydney, Nova Scotia) scored a goal to go along with two assists for the winning side.

Brendan Brickley (Everett, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist for UNE.

Rookie net-minder Connor Brogan (Hershey, Pa.) stopped 42 shots to earn the win.

Connecticut College junior J.J. McGregor (Wichita, Kan.) potted a pair of goals for the Camels. Senior Jordan Gray (Mississauga, Ont.) tallied a score in his final home game for the Camels.

Junior Andrew Margolin (Mahwah, N.J.) made 18 stops in the setback for the hosts.

Connecticut College Head Men's Hockey Coach Jim Ward saluted the six members of the Connecticut College Class of 2011 in a pre-game ceremony.

Justin Miner (Stratham, N.H.) opened the scoring with 5:48 remaining in the first when he went top shelf for his second goal of the season.

In the middle period, the Nor'Easters used a goal from Scott McManaman (Amherst, Nova Scotia) at 1:23 followed by another marker from Laite to take a 3-0 lead with 16:38 remaining in the frame.

The Camels scored the next two goals, pulling to within 3-2 on a power play goal from Gray with 8:26 to play in the period. Ryan Riffe (South Berwick, Maine) and Sean Curran (Wilmette, Ill.) assisted on the tally.

But UNE answered with a power play goal from Brickley at the beginning of the third period and continued to pull away en route to the 6-3 triumph.
