Connecticut College Runners Take Part In XC Championships

Teams place 13th and 16th

Both of Connecticut College's cross country teams traveled to Bowdoin College on Saturday to compete in the New England Division III Championship. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The Camels placed 13th in the 48 team field with a score of 354 points. Williams College edged Middlebury College by one point to win the New England Division III crown with a score of 88 points. Senior Michael Schmidt of Middlebury was the individual champion, posting a time of 24:39 on the 8k course for the Panthers.

Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) posted a time of 25:39 to lead the Camels in 41st place. Alex Mavrovic (Thetford Mines, Quebec) was the 65th finisher in 26:08. Junior Tim Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) checked in with a time of 26:13 en route to a 69th place showing for Connecticut College.

Senior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) posted a time of 26:22 to finish in 76th place. Patrick Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) was the 103rd runner to complete the course, logging a time of 26:51. Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) posted a time of 27:01 to finish in 113th place. Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) was the seventh Camel and 130th runner to complete the course in 27:15.

In the women's competition, the Camels scored 587 points to finish in a 16th place tie with UMass-Dartmouth.

Middlebury College topped the 51 team field with a score of 55 points. The Ephs of Williams College scored 60 points to finish in second place.

Williams College sophomore Chiara Del Piccolo posted a time of 20:52 on the 6k course to win the individual title for the Ephs.

Seniors Lindsay Paiva (Coventry, R.I.) and Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) paved the way to a successful day for the Camels, finishing 67th and 70th place with respective times of 23:15 and 23:16.

Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 24:07 to finish in 120th place. Ally Bonito (Guilford, Conn.) was the 124th finisher in 24:11. Heather Rochford (Red Bank, N.J.) posted a time of 25:28 as the 206th finisher.

Head Coach Ned Bishop noted that the top five scoring Camels all set their personal records Saturday.

Nicky Jasbon (Greenacres, Fla.) was the 245th runner in 26:12. Junior Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.) posted a time of 27:43 to finish in 296th place for Connecticut College.
