Connecticut College Competes In Track, Tennis

Middlebury defeats Camels on court; sophomore excels at steeplechase

Middlebury College defeats both the men's and women's tennis teams at Connecticut College on Friday, while a sophomore advanced in a steeplechase competition. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Tennis

The Middlebury College men's and women's tennis teams, both ranked seventh in the nation, posted 9-0 victories against Connecticut College in NESCAC matches played on the South Tennis Courts Friday.

The Panther men improve their record to 9-2 with a perfect 2-0 mark in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 5-4 with a 0-1 record in conference play. The Panther women remain undefeated at 9-0 with a 2-0 mark in league action. The Camel women are 4-8.

Brantner Jones (Winnetka, Ill.) posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory to lead the Panther men at #1 singles. Connecticut College junior George King (Concord, Mass.) and JC Cangelosi (Estero, Fla.) dropped a close 9-7 decision at #1 doubles.

Middlebury College junior Leah Kepping (Northport, N.Y.) swept combined play, posting a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at #2 singles and pairing up with Brittney Faber (Minnetonka, Minn.) in an 8-0 blanking at #1 doubles.

Connecticut College junior Jen Herbert (Pawcatuck, Conn.) played the closest match for the Camel women, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision at #2 singles.

Track and Field

Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc (Canton, Conn.) posted a time of 9:09.69 to place eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University Friday. With his finish, LeDuc has moved into second place on the national Division III Performance list. Last May, LeDuc garnered NCAA All-America honors with his sixth place finish at Ohio Wesleyan University, setting a school record with a time of 9:03.72.
