Amherst College Beats Connecticut College at Home

Women’s Lacrosse: #18 Amherst College 9, Connecticut College 7 Barone & Driscoll Both Contribute with 3 Goals, 1 Assist for Camels

The following sports update was provided by Connecticut College's Athletics Department:

Marta Randall (Monkton, Md.) scored 18 seconds into overtime and Allie Horwitz (Woodbridge, Conn.) added an insurance marker to lift the 18th ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team to a 9-7 victory against Connecticut College in a NESCAC game played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Lord Jeffs improve to 3-1 with a 1-1 mark in conference play, while the Camels fall to 2-3 with an 0-2 record in league play.

Randall finished with two goals and one assist while Horwitz registered a hat-trick with three scores for the winning side.

Juniors Hope Barone (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) both finished with three goals and one assist to lead the Camels. Senior defender Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth, R.I.) chipped in with three ground balls on the defensive side of the ball.

This closely contested battle featured six different ties. The two teams were locked up in a 4-4 tie at the break. With 5:38 remaining, Driscoll snapped a 6-6 tie with her third goal of the day, executing on a wraparound move from her right to the left side of the cage for the score.

But Horwitz responded with an equalizer 45 seconds later, firing home a one-timer on an assisting feed from Julia Viani (Concord, N.H.) to make it a 7-7 game.

Randall put the Jeffs on top for good with a goal scored 18 seconds into the extra session and Horwitz added an insurance goal to close out the 9-7 win.

MC McClellan (Denver, Colo.) stopped two Camel shots to earn the victory for the visitors. Lamia Harik (Rye Brook, N.Y.) logged 20:40 of action in the second half for the Lord Jeffs.

Rookie net-minder Caitlin Cataldo (Milford, Conn.) finished with eight saves and two ground balls in another strong performance in the cage for Connecticut College.
