Conn College Sailors Qualify For Atlantic Coast Championship

Camels take bronze at weekend competition at Harvard

The Connecticut College women's sailing team will brave the cold to take part in a mid-November championship after taking the bronze in Saturday and Sunday races on the Charles River. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The second ranked Connecticut College women's sailing placed third in the 18 team field at the Victorian Urn Regatta hosted by Harvard University on the Charles River this weekend. The Camels scored 148 points in the two-day regatta to earn a berth in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Championship (ACC) that will be hosted by SUNY-Maritime Nov. 12-13.

The top seven finishing teams at the regatta received berths to the ACC. Dartmouth College won the regatta with a score of 127 points. The Rhode Island Rams placed second with 128 points. Brown University, Yale University, Bowdoin College and the Catamounts from the University of Vermont all received berths to the ACC for scoring in the top seven.

Connecticut College sophomore skipper Atlantic Brugman, Grace Medley and Claire Sacco scored 49 points en route to their third place finish in the A division. In the B division, senior skipper Bitsy Whipple, Kim Bolick and Katie St. George placed ninth with a score of 99 points for Connecticut College.

Over at MIT, the 13th ranked Connecticut College coed sailing team competed in the Erwin Schell Regatta. The Camels scored 314 points to narrowly miss out on a berth to the Atlantic Coast Championship with their ninth place finish.

Dartmouth College won the regatta with a score of 226 points. Harvard and Yale finished in second and third place with respective scores of 228 and 230 points. Brown University, Roger Williams, MIT and Tufts finished 4-7 to capture berths in the upcoming ACC.

Kevin Martland, Brendan Heussler, Elizabeth Wilsterman, IG Schottlaender, Alexander Giordano and Lea Bushnell teamed up on a 12th place finish in the A division with a score of 180 points. In the B division, Peter Miller, Ben Bainbridge, Marina Gluckman, Kat Andril and Ryan Daly scored 134 points en route to a seventh place showing for the Camels.
