Conn College Evens Up Field Hockey Stats

Connecticut College's early goals in a field hockey match against Wellesley College kept the Camels in the lead through the end of the game. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Senior Lauren Gaffny (North Andover, Mass.) scored a first half goal and assisted on another to lead the Connecticut College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory against Wellesley College Tuesday.

Brittany Fitzgerald (Ridgefield, Conn.) chipped in with her team-leading ninth goal of the season for the Camels.

Wellesley College midfielder Meghan Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) contributed a second half score to make this game interesting. Emily Lewis (Weston, Conn.) assisted on the marker.

The Camels even their record at 5-5 with the win, while Wellesley slips to 6-7 with the setback.

The Blue piled up 15 corners in the second stanza and Peterson finally broke through for a score with 20:40 remaining in regulation. Later on in the half with 9:33 left to play, Peterson made a nifty bid to tie the game but Connecticut College rookie net-minder Becca Napolitano (Hamden, Conn.) thwarted the scoring chance when she went down to the turf to make a diving stab for the Camels.

The Camels opened the scoring 4:20 into regulation. Ali Holland (Watertown, Mass.) pushed the Ball ahead to Gaffny, who delivered a through ball to Fitzgerald for a goal from the center of the circle.

Later on with 11:59 left, Holland assisted Gaffny for her fifth goal of the season in a two-on-one situation in front of the cage.

Napolitano finished with four saves for Connecticut College and was aided by sophomore Andrea Hoisington (Brownsville, Vt.), who contributed a defensive save for the hosts.

Brit Mscisz (Topsfield, Mass.) made two saves in the setback for Wellesley.

"Play Pink" is a nationwide, unified effort by field hockey teams to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the field, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
