Coast Guard Senior Shadwick Sure Can Swim!

Shadwick breaks her own record and earns All-American honors, again!

The following sports update was provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Athletics Department:

Women’s Swimming: Shadwick Does it Again

For the second straight day senior Kim Shadwick broke her own school record, set earlier in the day, and earned All-America honors, this time with a fourth place finish in the 200 freestyle at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Tennessee.

Shadwick posted a time of 1:50.37 to finish fifth in the preliminaries and earn her a spot in the championship final and All-America status. She broke her own school record of 1:51.66 which she set last season.

She swam an even better 1:50.08 to place fourth in the championship final and reset the school record. Shadwick ironically did not win the 200 freestyle at the NEWMAC Championships this year as her teammate junior Heidi Gayman won with a time of 1:53.00.

It is Shadwick's second All-America performance in as many days as she placed sixth in the 500 freestyle to earn the first All-America honors of her brilliant career on Wednesday.

Last year, Shadwick placed 17th in the 200 freestyle at the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:52.77.

The senior is not done yet, as she will swim in the 1,650 freestyle, in which she placed 10th at the NCAA Championships last season. She is the three-time defending NEWMAC Champion in the 1,650 freestyle, the final race of her career will be on Saturday.
