Coast Guard Racks Up Goals Against Mass. Maritime

Bears defeat Buccaneers 6-0 in women's soccer

The Coast Guard had a strong second half in a women's soccer game against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday, racking up six goals before the clock ran out. The following information was provided by Jason Southard, sports information director at the Coast Guard Academy:

Coast Guard erupted for three goals in a span of 3:33 and scored all six goals in the second half in a 6-0 win over Massachusetts Maritime in a non-conference game.

Freshman Holly Moore broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute taking a pass from sophomore Judy Hooymans and beat freshman goal keeper Emilie Conway.

Junior Kelsey Freeman scored the first goal of her career in the 66th minute starting a streak of three goals in 3:33 for Coast Guard as senior Brittany Fifer (68th minute) and senior Shannah Shelton scored her team-leading fourth goal in the 70th minute. Freeman assisted on Fifers goal while freshman Lindsay Duplessis had her first career assist on the Shelton goal giving the Bears a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore Jill Kelly registered her first career goal in the 77th minute before freshman Luanna Pugliese’s first career goal in the 83rd minute closed the scoring.

Coast Guard, which has won four of its last five, improves to 4-2 on the season while Mass. Maritime drops to 0-5.

Senior Mary Mills needed to make just one save to record her third shutout of the season while Conway had 16 saves in net for the Buccaneers, who were outshot 33-2.
