MIT had its largest lead of the game 58-47 with 5:53 left following an old fashion 3-point play by sophomore Rachel Hunt before the Bears scored 13 straight to take a 60-58 lead with just 33 seconds left.

Sophomore Tamara Pena’s jumper with eight seconds left tied the game at 60-60 and Coast Guard had a chance to win it in regulation, but the shot fell short.

In the overtime, the Engineers scored the first five points, a layup by junior Anna Merrifield off the tip and a 3-pointer by Kordell for a 65-60 lead just 48 seconds into overtime.

The Bears cut the lead to 65-64 before MIT ran off seven straight points to put the game away.

Pena led MIT with 18 points while freshman Alexxis Isaac had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high ten rebounds. Hunt was also in double figures with 12 points as the Engineers improved to a 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Freshman Alexi Howland finished with a career-high 12 points while sophomore Kaitlin Ward had ten points for the Bears, who have dropped three straight and are now 4-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Zimmerman and Gurtler led the Bears with seven rebounds each, but MIT outrebounded Coast Guard 50-37.

MIT shot 39.7 percent from the floor (25-63) while making six of 18 from 3-point range while Coast Guard was 20 of 55 from the field (36.4 percent) while hitting six of 11 from behind the arc.
