Camels Take Sixth In Sailing Competition

Connecticut College competes in Rhode Island regatta

Connecticut College's co-ed sailing team came in sixth out of 20 sailing teams on Sunday after competing in the Rhode Island State Championship in Newport, R.I. The event marks one of the last sailing events of the season, with the women's sailing competition set to compete in the final race on Nov. 13. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

The Camels, ranked #13 in the latest Sailing World Magazine national ranking presented by Sperry Top-Sider, placed sixth in the 20 team field with a score of 168 points.

The Coast Guard Bears scored 124 points to win the Championship. The Rams from the University of Rhode Island placed second with 138 points with Brown University tallying 148 points in a third place finish.

The sophomore trio of Gabe Salk, David Rex and Lindsey Press propelled the Camels to a fourth place finish in the B division with a score of 77 points. In the A division, Bitsy Whipple, Eliza Price and Katie St. George scored 91 points en route to their 10th place showing for Connecticut College.

Connecticut College also competed in the Hap Moore Team Racing Regatta on the Thames River. It was a successful weekend for the Camels, who topped the five team field in the Silver Fleet with a record of 7-7.
