Shinall shot 6-for-10 from three-point distance and was 9-for-15 from the field. She added five steals and three assists while converting on all four of her free throw attempts.

She is the 12th Camel women's basketball to reach the four digit milestone and the first player to scored 1,000 points since Katy Serafin '08 did so back in 2007.

"I could not have accomplished this without the support of my teammates, friends and family," Shinall said following the win. "Everyone throughout my career has always believed in me and I am truly thankful for that. My teammates did a great job finding me on the floor tonight and I was very thankful for the support they showed me."

Brian Wilson, head coach of the Connecticut College women's basketball program, appreciates everything Shinall has done to bring the program forward.

"We are all tremendously excited for Jennifer and her family," Wilson said. "Becoming just the 12th player in Connecticut College women's basketball history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone is an impressive accomplishment and we are all proud of her. I'm thrilled that she was able to reach the mark at home in front of her family and friends and that it occurred during a fantastic team victory.

I'm honored to have had the opportunity to coach Jennifer during these three years. She is as competitive and works as hard as any player I have ever coached. Scoring 1,000 points is a testament not only to her natural talent but to her incredible work ethic. Jennifer is constantly in the gym, in season and out, working on her game, finding ways to improve. Her passionate approach to the game of basketball is everything a coach could want - she is the definition of a gym rat." First year point guard Carlee Smith (Willimantic, Conn.) added 10 points with four rebounds and four steals for the winning side.

The Camels out-rebounded the Mariners 47-to-30 and used that advantage to out-score the visitors 20-to-6 at the charity stripe.

But the Mariners deserve a lot of credit for playing through adversity. Coach Bern Macca, Connecticut College Class of ‘95, dressed just seven players Monday and they fought hard to the final buzzer.

Sheanna James (Waterbury, Conn.) netted a team-best 15 points to go with four rebounds for Mitchell. Bianca Young (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 12 points and five boards for the Mariners.

Shinall reached the 1,000 point barrier with 8:30 remaining in the first half, netting her 16th and 17th point of the contest with a pair of free throws.

The Camels built a 34-17 lead in the opening half when Jeanna Dunleavy (Chatham, N.J.) hit Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.) on a back door cut to the hoop with 6:15 to go. Later on in the half with 4:47 remaining, Dana Albalancy (Wynnewood, Pa.) buried a three-ball to vault the Camels out to a 37-18 advantage. The hosts carried a 41-23 lead into the break.

Shinall came out firing in the second stanza and knocked down a pair of threes in the opening moments to spark the Camels on a 17-to-3 run that put the game out of reach. Kacie Quick (Winchester, Mass.) capped the rally with a hoop and some harm at the 14:48 mark to make it a 58-26 game.

The Camels continued to pull away for the 82-35 victory.
