Camels Come From Behind For Lacrosse Win

Connecticut College marked its third women's lacrosse win in a row on Friday, defeating Williams College in a come-from-behind victory. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Katelyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) scored with eight seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Connecticut College Camels to a 6-5 victory against Williams College in NESCAC women's lacrosse action played at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. Saturday.

The Camels erased a 3-0 first half deficit en route to their third straight win, improving to 3-3 with a 1-3 mark in NESCAC. The Ephs even their record at 3-3 with the setback and are 0-3 in league action. Williams had won the past three outings in this longstanding rivalry. "It was great execution for us today and we are proud to have earned a victory against a talented Williams College squad," Connecticut College Head Coach Liz Longley said. "We showed discipline on attack and Kelsey Burke stepped up for us with a great effort in the cage."

Driscoll finished with a goal and two assists in the victory. Junior Bri Miller (Sudbury, Mass.) who collected the critical ground ball in the closing moments and provided the assist for the game-winner, finished with two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Lowell Abbott (Manchester, Mass.) added two goals and three draws for the Camels.

Junior Kelsey Burke (Kingston, N.H.) was impressive in the cage, collecting several clutch stops in the second stanza and finishing with 10 saves in the triumph.

Williams College junior Sam Weinstein (Marblehead, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Ephs offensively. Lacey Hankin (Glyndon, Md.), Margie Fulton (Wellesley, Mass.) and Emily Jablonski (Madison, Conn.) all contributed scores for Williams.

Emily Whicker (Potomac, Md.) collected three draw controls. Sophomore Ali Piltch (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) stopped 10 shots in the cage.

The Ephs built a 3-0 first half advantage and carried a 3-1 advantage into the break. After Weinstein buried a shot into the lower half of the netting 45 seconds into the second stanza, the Ephs had regained their three goal advantage with a 4-1 lead.

But with 23:10 remaining, Abbott made a nifty move with a turnaround shot from the slot area to make it a 4-2 game. Miller made it a 4-3 game when she executed with a wraparound move, sprinting from behind the cage for a goal with 21:28 left.

The Ephs pushed the lead back to 5-3 when Margie Fulton put in an unassisted marker with 14:47 remaining.

However, the Camels would not go away. Charolotte McAuley (Summit, N.J.) found the back of the net with a free position shot. Then, with 5:53 remaining, Ashley Crutchfield (Concord, N.H.) assisted Miller for the equalizer.

Connecticut College held possession for the closing 2:33 of regulation. In the closing moments, Miller was able to collect the rebound of her shot and assist Driscoll for a goal that proved to be the difference.

The Camels held a 25-to-22 advantage in shots and held a 12-to-7 edge in ground balls.

Williams College will visit on March 31 for an 11 a.m. game in Lewiston, Me.

The Camels will visit Trinity College Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. game in Hartford.
