Anna Maria Defeats Mitchell College Lacrosse

Mariners men's team remains winless for the season

The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team is still seeking their first win after a Saturday defeat by Anna Maria College. The following information was provided by Bettian Michalik, sports information director at Mitchell College:

Anna Maria received hat tricks from Grant Pilkington (Warwick, RI) and Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ) to help pace AMC to a 10-4 win over visiting Mitchell College in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win Anna Maria evens their record at 3-3 while Mitchell remains winless at 0-4.

Along with Pilkington and Summers’ six goals, AMCAT senior Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) added three points on two goals and an assist while Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass.), Blake Simpson and Jason Baker (Billerica, Mass) each added two points. Senior keeper Andrew Ellis made nine saves in the win.

Mitchell was led by Jordan Cooks’ (Groton, Conn.) two goals while Adam Grillo (Waterford, Conn.) and Aaron Feingerg (Waterford, Conn.) each tallied points.

Anna Maria came out of the gate on fire, scoring the games’ first four goals. Freshman Joshua Smith scored an unassisted goal to start the scoring at 4:47. Junior Chris Summers scored the next two goals on assists from Mike Saulnier and Smith. Pilkington made it 4-0 with a nice finish of a feed from Baker.

Mitchell got on the scoreboard with just eight seconds remaining in the first period when Jordan Cook scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 4-1. Mitchell made it 4-2 with a power play goal from Aaron Feinberg at 6:43 of the second period. Baker tallied his only goal of the game with 2:11 remaining in the first half to give the AMCATS the 5-2 at halftime.

The teams traded goals in the third period, with Grillo scoring for the visitors and Pilkington scoring his second of the game for a 6-3 lead entering the final period.

Mitchell made it a 6-4 game just 1:10 into the final stanza with another Cook unassisted goal but Anna Maria answered with two fantastic scores by Mike Saulnier from the left wing to go on a 4-0 run and a 10-4 win.
