Survey Gathering Parental Input On Extended School Hours

New London Public Schools to add 300 hours of learning time to calendar in 2013-2014

New London Public Schools is seeking parental input on a pilot program that will begin in the 2013-2014 year and extend the school calendar by 300 hours.

A survey on the district's website invites parents with children in the New London Public Schools to share their thoughts on the district's participation in this three-year pilot program. Participating schools are Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, Jennings School, Nathan Hale School, and Winthrop School.

The survey is available in both English and Spanish. It asks parents which school their child attends, how interested they would be in having their child attend school until 4:30 p.m., and the importance of a supper program and transportation. The survey also asks parents to rate the importance of additional time for reading, math, physical education, projects, and homework and invites other ideas for the use of extended time.
