Snowflake Dance Will Benefit Sandy Hook Fund

Event at New London High School, open to public, will benefit Victoria Leigh Soto memorial scholarship

A dance sponsored by the senior class at New London High School will benefit a scholarship set up to honor a teacher killed in last month's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

The Snowflake Dance will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 2 at the NLHS cafeteria. Admission is $6 and the event is open to the public and students.

Half of the proceeds from the dance will go to the Victoria Leigh Soto Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Eastern Connecticut State University. The school established up the scholarship in honor of a 2008 ECSU graduate who was one of the 26 people killed at the school in the Dec. 24 shooting.

Soto, a first grade teacher, was credited with protecting her students at the time of her death. The scholarship will be awarded to ECSU students studying to be teachers who have unmet financial aid.

Tickets for the dance may be purchased by contacting Margie Lawrence at lawrencem@newlondon.org. No tickets will be sold at the door. Donations may also be made at the high school or by mailing Lawrence at 490 Jefferson Ave., New London CT, 06320.
