Regional Multicultural Magnet School Looking For Alums

School will celebrate 20th anniversary next month

An elementary school with a special focus on cultural diversity is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and looking for graduates to join in the fun.

The will hold celebrations on June 4 and 5. The first day will have a multicultural festival at the school, and the second will consist of a "Magnetpalooza" music festival at .

Graduates or their parents should send their name, address, e-mail address, and a recent photo to ybergman@rmms.k12.ct.us or call the school at 860-437-7775, ext. 220. A Facebook page has also been set up for the event.

RMMS became the first multi-district magnet school in the United States when it was founded in 1991. Its students come from New London, East Haddam, East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Lyme, & Old Lyme, Montville, North Stonington, Preston, Salem, Stonington and Waterford. The K-5 school moved to its present location in 1992, graduated its first class in 1997, and finished an addition in January of 2004.

The mission of the school, which is a program of LEARN, is "respecting cultural diversity, empowering all learners, and developing compassionate people who take responsibility for making positive changes in our society," according to its website.
